virgin flight

just flew down on virgin america. which was lovely, as short little one hour flights go. i don’t know what to say that hasn’t already been said, but i pretty much agree with it all.

  • it’s always cool to watch satellite tv on the plane. i watched the battlestar galactica recap show on scifi. i really wanted to watch us open tennis, but i kept getting a directv hour-long commercial instead.
    mood lighting
  • the movies that they did have to purchase were actually pretty cool. and it’s nice to be able to do that from any seat, not just first class. you just swipe your credit card underneath the monitor. or you can watch premium tv episodes for less.
  • or, you can just listen to their predone radio stations, or build up a personal playlist from the acceptably uncrappy selection of songs they have. i threw together some beck, nina simone, bowie, duran duran, air, amy winehouse, john coletrane, cold war kids, and topped it off with some thievery corporation. who needs an ipod?
  • google maps for tracking the plane’s progress!
  • yummy mood lighting indeed.
  • delightful attention by everyone, especially the terminal crew and the check-in people. or maybe it was because it was almost empty. nobody flies on tuesdays. nobody.

the only bad thing was the kid who moved in front of me, somehow exploded his milk so that it dripped down the seat and onto my feet and bags. i was surprisingly gracious about it. on retrospect, it’s just as well— i know that things like that are soon to be happening to me, and i’ll appreciate consideration in return.
