zonetaggery 2: the zonetaggening

i go in for our zonetag uploady phone feedback focus group today, so while i’m thinking about it, i might as well get it down.

i do have to say that having a cameraphone that uploads pictures right to flickr is damned convenient. i don’t know if more pictures end up getting uploaded, but certainly they get uploaded quicker. then they get used quicker, whether it be here or wherever like using pictures of some whiteboard from a meeting. it was totally invaluable when moving, as we took pictures of crap we wanted to sell on craigslist and then BANG there’s the picture so we could post it immediately. faster pictures = $$$

that being said, more than else, it made me wish for a real camera again. the picture quality just isn’t there for most shots, so i ended up being a little disappointed in the end results. it might help if you had a chance to decide whether it’s worth it to upload your shot or not. as it is, the interface jumps in after only a second, and it’s either now or never (or sure, you could just grab it off the phone manually later, but that sort of defeats the purpose). it would be nice to look at existing photos and choose one and upload that at will.

it even made me nostalgic for my lomo, which is almost the diametric opposite: beautiful photos, and maybe the most ass-painy way to get them online: develop film (drop off, then pick up). then scan negs into computer. and then upload. and then tag.

it’s true though, i don’t really want to carry around my lomo or even my very very very small camera around with me all the time. it’s just another item. and i only have so many pockets.

i still want something that doesn’t exist yet. phone that takes photos as good as my lomo. and then uploads them to the web.

and makes me cupcakes.
