it’s true. don’t live in the past. if you never let it go, you can’t live in the present. and just forget about the future.
since we’ve been back i’ve been trying to finish up summarizing our costa rica trip. which i finally did (cleverly/annoyingly backdated), thank goodness, although i think i passed the 30-day grace period on that. something must have expired by now. the details, the nuances, the pleasant memories. this is what i get for not writing anything down in the last week of our trip.
what this did end up doing is totally stop me from writing about anything new going on. because there are really exciting and earthshaking things going on, but i haven’t been able have the mindspace to put them down, as i’ve been afraid that some little detail about costa rica would get squeezed out. like that part about how we ate at the magic ginger restaurant because it was “the only french restaurant (featuring a chef straight from la belle france!) on the carribean coast,” only the dinner TASTED LIKE ASS. maybe the chef was back home for the january sales? or maybe it tasted like FRENCH ASS and we didn’t get it. in any case, thanks lonely bollocks!
i did wish that i had brought that stupid hand held pocket sudoku game that we all got for christmas. it’s sort of useless at home, not that i don’t play sudoku, but i already have it on my phone so i don’t need another gadget. but out in the rainforest after burning through all my (and many other) books, it would have been perfect for killing some time. or a few days.
one final rant: CAN WE SUCK IT UP AND GO METRIC ALREADY? i’m tired of going to other countries and not knowing how far away things are, how much they weigh, and how fast i’m really driving. can we just get in line so everyone knows what everyone else is talking about? i only really figured out how long a mile is a few years ago, so changing now wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
on the other hand, i spent five minutes figuring out how to ask, “how much does the gasoline cost for a litre?” in spanish and it turns out that they use gallons for gas.
of course.
on with the present. onward to the future. pura vida!
