after all the fear and worry and terror and anti-terror, how bad was it getting through airport security with all the extra heightened awareness?
piece of cake.
seriously, i’ve NEVER seen a shorter line at oakland airport. try like zero people. at 7:30 on a friday! perhaps everyone else was frightened away, but this was soooo easy.
true, I did just give up and not even to try and bring any toiletries at all, and yes, I did just see a sheriff biking through the terminal(!?). but i’ve seen return counters at rei that were harder to get through.
thinking about being in la and going to our anniversary dinner tomorrow all fuzzy and stinky due to lack of gel and deodorant, it’s clear that the terrorists have won: not only are we in fear of innocuous liquids, not only do we have to change out way of life, but now we’re requiring women to go without makeup as well—just like strict muslim states.
so much for freedom.
Posted at August 11, 2006 7:46 PMAh, herein lies a possible strategy for safety…you may pack any liquid on a plane that you are willing to swallow a bit of before you check your bag or go through security. Airports could even generate extra revenue from the policy by making a 24-hour reality TV program from the footage. They could call it Operation Princess Bride! It might also encourage people to buy more ecologically wholesome toiletries. However, these policy makers clearly don’t remember the consequences of The War on Drugs…what will keep terrorists (who are prepared to die anyway) from putting containers of liquid explosives up their arses or in their baby’s diapers until they get on the plane. Oh right, I forgot all terrorists are Muslim and they can’t put anything up their arse. Maybe we should all have to be X-rayed as we go through security? Would that make us safe?
