to seoul

it’s 10:41p in seoul. on tuesday. i’ve been up for hours and hours and hours, part of my plan to have a good night’s sleep and instantly wake up on korean time. this is where all of my training with needless all-nighters comes in to play!

at the airport this morning we were swarmed by boy scouts. but alas, it turns out they were not also headed for seoul. perhaps the hiking is not so good along the 38th parallel?

12 hours is a long time to be on an airplane. during that time, pretty much everything dies on you, such as:

• laptop battery (after six episodes of the thick of it)
  
• ipod battery (thank goodness for nano in reserve)
  
• spirit of adventure
  
• any sensation in arse
  
• love of humanity

and then there you are, in culturally hot hot HOTT south korea, where all the hip asian culture is being churned out like a huge play-doh factory of soap operas and hip-hop groups. alas, it so far just looks overcast and humid. but i’m sure that asian boy bands are just hiding around the corner, ready to pop out into song…

(btw, at the hotel fancy buffet, the beef knee, mashed pumpkin, and the jellyfish were good, but the healthy snail was unmemorable).
