interstella

i finally got around to watching interstella 5555, which is the animated collaboration between daft punk and leiji matsumoto, the legendary creator of starship yamato, galaxy express 999, and captain harlock.

essentially it’s a album-length music video, entirely animated to tell this crazy story about abducted alien rock stars who are kidnapped and brought to earth, made to look like humans, and brainwashed to be pop stars as part as an evil plot for galaxy domination (what isn’t these days?). it’s really cool as there’s no dialogue at all, but the audio is just the entire daft punk album discovery, with some sound effects here and there.

it’s a lot of fun, sort of like dj q-bert’s wave twisters, but with a retro anime bent! fantastic!
